San Miguel is now a Unesco World Heritage Site!
The Flavors & Magic of San Miguel are waiting for you in an exciting culinary adventure, an “Insider’s Tour” of the 16th Century Colonial city of San Miguel de Allende, high in the Sierra Madre mountains of central México. Said to be the most beautiful city in México, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is a mecca for chefs, artists, writers, jewelry designers, musicians, and people who love the good life. Full of excitement and energy, with gentle and gracious people, San Miguel and its Eternal Spring weather will capture your imagination and stimulate your creative spirit. The city’s magnificent homes, gardens, courtyards, and fountains have been featured in every major decorating magazine. As an “Insider”, you will be invited behind the ancient doors of San Miguel to visit exquisite homes surrounded by color-washed walls covered in bougainvillea—fuchsia, red, and orange. Guitar and mariachi music mingle with the sounds of flowing fountains as you stroll along the colorful cobblestone streets. The aroma of night-blooming jasmine is as intoxicating as the Tamarindo Margaritas you will sample at an authentic Mexican cocktail party!
Chef Shari Alexander and her partner Artistic Director Alberto Pacheco invite you to a fun-filled, delicious, and exciting week of fabulous dinners hosted by chefs of San Miguel’s finest and most picturesque restaurants, country haciendas, and private villas. You will enjoy luxury accommodations and first-class amenities in one of the most beautiful and romantic accommodations in all of San Miguel. Enjoy breakfast each morning in an elegant setting before beginning a day of adventure. One evening you will dine under the stars overlooking vineyards, another gazing out at the magical 18th century cathedral La Parroquia, its pink marble luminescent by moonlight.
Chef/Restaurateur Shari Alexander has created this unique 6-night, 7-day adventure for “foodies,” art enthusiasts, and luxury lifestyle travelers. She and her partner Alberto Pacheco, a full-time resident of San Miguel, will offer this fully escorted, exclusive tour of magical San Miguel de Allende for only 12 guests beginning March 2009. Participants will have no language concerns as Alberto and his bilingual guides will make shopping in the best artisanal markets a pleasurable as well as a fascinating experience. Private-car transportation will be available throughout the trip, as will escorts to and from the airport in León. This “Insiders” culinary and cultural tour is sure to be the adventure of a lifetime. Every day a new adventure with gourmet dining, fabulous shops, breathtaking homes, great music, fascinating people and the warmth and beauty of San Miguel. Recommended to all discerning travelers. —Mr. & Mrs. P.G., St. Petersburg, FL
Wow! What a truly magical fascinating trip. The Mexican people are so friendly and gracious, the food fabulous, and the host tour organizers knowledgeable and professional. And, there was no worry about safety. We walked night and day with no problem. Our handsome Mexican-American owner/tour director, Alberto, guided us to great places to wander and shop. He was “right on”. Shari, chef-owner, of Flavors and Magic is charming and energetic. She oversaw all the restaurant choices and the chefs menus. Nothing was missed. Not only was the food fabulous but the atmosphere of a private residence was truly unique—something I could never experience on my own. It truly gave me a flavor of the Mexican history and culture. Dinner conversation with the hacienda owners produced wonderful stories of writers, artists and brilliant people who now reside or have resided in San Miguel de Allende. This was a perfect way to get an “inside” look at this artist colony. —L.H., Cape Cod, MA
Thank you so much for the truly amazing tour of San Miguel. The best experience of my life! —B.C., Jupiter, FL
